Whole Foods is doubling down a deal with Instacart that provides an online ordering option for the health-minded grocery chain.
Baltimore will be among the beneficiaries.
A Whole Foods spokeswoman confirmed that Baltimore will be among the cities where the grocery delivery startup will deliver Whole Foods products.
The service is expected to be introduced in Baltimore this year, but details such as an exact start date and which Baltimore store would deliver weren’t available.
“We are so thrilled to offer our Baltimore customers the convenience of Instacart delivery, giving them more ways to enjoy fresh, high quality groceries,” said a statement issued by Whole Foods. “As soon as we have more details on delivery in our area, we’ll be excited to share that with shoppers.”
Instacart and Whole Foods have been partners since 2014, and the partnership is currently in place in 17 metro areas. With the new deal, Instacart raised equity funding and expects to add another 8-9 metro areas. The other initial expansion area is Orange County, Calif.
The city of Baltimore runs a grocery delivery program through a partnership with ShopRite that is designed to help residents in food deserts get access to groceries.
