It’s like a music festival, but with a N3rd Street vibe — you know, flying drones, blood splatter, explosions, robot-informing lizards. The usual.
Technical.ly Philly is proud to announce its first Innovation in the Park event presented by AT&T and sponsored by PGW. On Thursday, July 17 come join us at Liberty Lands Park in Northern Liberties, where you can watch local thinkers in science and tech talk about their latest projects from an outdoor stage. Crowdsurfing optional.
Details on the free event here, and please do RSVP.
Here’s the game plan:
Skip out on work early. Come at 3:30 p.m. to get your blanket or camp chair set up. At 4 p.m., we’ll start hearing from our speakers, who each will aim to teach you something new. Here’s the lineup:
- Artist Sam Cusumano of Data Garden will show us how he makes music from apples and plants via biodata.
- Forensic archaeologist Kimberlee Sue Moran will create blood splatter. The 2013 Philly Geek Awards Scientist of the Year will then explain how a crime scene investigator would analyze it.
- Evolutionary morphology professor Tonia Hsieh will show how her research at Temple University on the movement of lizards helps makes seniors safer and robots better.
- DroneCast CEO GauravJit (Raj) Singh will share how being of the country’s first drone advertising companies is about battling with regulations and expectations. Based in Philly, this event will close out DroneCast’s first national promotional tour. Expect a demonstration above the crowd.
- Franklin Institute Chief Bioscientist Jayatri Das will talk about building a more science-literate community, but she plans to start off her talk with a bang, literally.
The event will be emceed by Technical.ly’s own Juliana Reyes and Indy Hall point man Adam Teterus.
In addition to any picnic-style snacks you might want to bring, have a few bucks so you can enjoy a refreshing artisan fruit pop by Whimsicle.
After the event:
Want to continue the fun? After Innovation in the Park, head over to the monthly Urban Geek Drinks, happening at Frankford Hall from 6-9 p.m.
