Four in five women will someday be solely responsible for their household wealth. That’s due both to life expectancy and the rise of “gray divorce” — in addition to diversifying relationship types.
For years, women’s wealth was growing faster than that of men — though the crushing ramifications of the 2020 recession on women is not fully understood. But for all the remarkable gains in the last 50 years, only a third of women with male partners report playing an equal role in family financial decisions, according to the annual Own Your Wealth report from UBS. Just 16% of women report leading. Half say their partner leads. The trend is more pronounced among millennial women married to men; two-thirds say they leave financial decisions to their husbands.
The result is a yawning lack of preparedness for crucial wealth management and financial independence. It runs in counter to a growing movement of women taking larger roles in the worlds of investment and entrepreneurship, as systems and institutions place greater emphasis on diversity, inclusion and equity.
To help educate aspiring funders and founders, we created Off the Sidelines, an investor education podcast produced by us at Technical.ly and sponsored by Project Entrepreneur, a program by UBS. Project Entrepreneur is on a mission to change the status quo for women founders and accelerate their growth through increasing access to capital and building ecosystems to advance women entrepreneurs.

We’ll be in conversation with Jenny Abramson, founder and managing partner at Rethink Impact, and Amy Griffin, founding partner at G9 Ventures, as well as gathering perspective from Jamie Sears, head of community affairs and corporate responsibility for UBS Americas.
