From Hockessin to Hollywood: Pirooz Kalayeh returns with film ‘CTRL ALT DEL’

Filmmaker Pirooz Kalayeh is based in Los Angeles, but growing up, Wilmington was his home. Born in Tehran, Iran, his family settled in Hockessin in the ’80s, where he explored acting and filmmaking while attending A.I. High and, later, the University of Delaware. If you lived in Delaware in the ’90s, you might remember seeing Cecil’s Water, the alternative rock band he cofounded with Sonny Mishra, playing joints like The Deer Park and East End Cafe.

Since then, Kalayeh has made several  films, including Shoplifting from American Apparel and Zombie Hunter M.D. and published a novel, The Whopper Strategies, about an ad exec trying to package “enlightenment in a box.”

His latest film, CTRL ALT DEL, explores four intertwining stories taking place over the course of a single day in Los Angeles.

CTRL ALT DEL will have a screening at the Trocadero Balcony in Philadelphia on April 29 — the first screening one of Kalayeh’s films in the area.

Doors open for the event at 7 p.m., and the film starts at 8 (The Balcony is a bar, so you have to be 21+).

In addition to the movie, there will also be a Q&A with Kalayeh and special guests Scary Hours and Kevin Tarzanin of Bullbuckers.
