Wanna join Hive76? The hackerspace is funding a ‘Hacker in Resident’

Apply now and learn from the creators of the giant Connect Four, the Hive Lord cyborg and Clyde, who's like a magic eight ball but cooler.

By all accounts, Hive76 is a magical place.
It’s the hackerspace that brought us larger than life versions of Connect Four and Operation!, a cyborg named the Hive Lord and a sassy robot with all the answers named Clyde.
Now the crew is accepting applications for a “Hacker in Resident.” That means if you’re chosen, Hive76 will pay your dues for any period of time (from one month up to one year). It’s both a way to support hackers who can’t afford the dues and to bring new people into the fold. Former Hive76 member Rich Hart, who moved to Texas, donated the money to start the program, said spokesman Chris Terrell.
Here’s what a hacker in resident will get:

  • 24/7 access to Hive76 for personal projects
  • Work Desk
  • Core Members have priority on equipment and tools
  • Private storage locker.
  • Permission to use all space equipment and tools (once trained)

Here’s how to apply, as per Terrell’s instructions:

Email hive76-discussion@googlegroups.com, make the subject of the email “Hacker in Resident” followed with your name. In the email answer the following two question (Feel free to copy and paste them into your application)

  • What do you hope to gain from Membership at Hive76. e.g. what will being a Member allow you to do that you can’t do simply by coming to public events such as open house? Are there skills you plan to learn at Hive? Collaborations you are looking forward to?
  • What do you plan to give to Hive76, that will benefit the space/Membership? e.g. Skills you are bringing to Hive you are willing to share/teach others, classes you envision that you could teach if there is sufficient interest, anything else?

Also, we would like to encourage applicants to stop by open house. Open house is held every Wednesday night from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at our space on 915 Spring Garden St., 5th Floor.
