Gov. Martin O’Malley said Tuesday at the 2012 CyberMaryland conference that “Maryland must align its universities, public resources and private-sector companies to further its goal of being the ‘epicenter of cyber security,’ ” reports the Baltimore Business Journal.

Continuing to build a pipeline for a skilled cyber workforce is a key part of the state’s strategy to strengthen its position as a leader in cyber, O’Malley said. In addition to supporting specialized cyber security degree programs at community colleges and universities, the state must also push for more commercialization of research and development to fuel entrepreneurship in the industry, he added. According to the CyberMaryland website, the two-day conference, which wrapped up Wednesday, “is a public/private partnership providing resources and services for new and expanding information technology companies in one of the world’s most powerful and innovative markets – cybersecurity.”
