Common Market, a socially-minded local food distributor, recently opened Good Food Lab, a large-scale coworking space for food entrepreneurs, PlanPhilly reported.

The more than 70,000 square feet space, which is Common Market’s new headquarters, is in North Philly, north of Kensington and east of Hunting Park. It will hold five to seven tenants and has already secured one, a mushroom growing company called Mycopolitan Company, according to PlanPhilly.

Philly has another food-focused space, the Enterprise Center‘s Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises, but that one is more focused on incubating food businesses by offering space and services.

The large scale coworking space movement is becoming more prevalent in North Philadelphia, where entrepreneurs are looking for ways to reimagine the city’s former mills and factories. There’s The Loom, which was always a shared warehouse space but has seen new life due to new ownership, 3rd Ward Philadelphia and the forthcoming Oxford Mills cohousing space for teachers.
