The finals for the University of Delaware Horn Program in Entrepreneurship’s Hen Hatch startup funding competition are swiftly approaching, but the deadline for discounted tickets for the event is even closer: Friday, April 1 is the last day to purchase tickets for the finals and Innovation Showcase for 50 percent off.
Regular tickets for the April 25 event cost $50 for non-students, but if you buy your ticket Friday, you can use the promo code “Early bird.”

Hen Hatch has two tracks this year, one for student teams and another for alumni, faculty and staff. Winners will receive cash and prizes from a pool totaling $100,000. This year, 70 teams submitted applications.
The Innovation Showcase, also a part of the event, will feature a variety of social ventures, innovation projects and startup businesses. Networking, an awards ceremony and a reception are also part of the schedule.
Hen Hatch judges will be Terry Kelly, president and CEO of W.L. Gore & Associates (the company behind Gore-Tex); Delaware businessman Ben duPont; Stephen Tang, president and CEO of Philadelphia’s University City Science Center; and Ralph Cetrullo III, a partner at Stephano Slack LLC.
Here are the Hen Hatch student finalists:
- Curing Cube, dental equipment by Farhad Baqi, Seyar Baqi and Edward Bayley
- JADE Biotech, a medical diagnostic device by Elizabeth Soulas, Daniel Charytonowicz, John Lowman and Allison Lisberg
- Joost Wafel Co., a food manufacturing and sales business by Joost Elling
And here are the finalists from the faculty, staff and alumni track:
- Flip, a wallet by Chris Lin, a 2015 engineering alum
- NERDiT Now, an information technology service by Jonathan Hoxter, a Lerner College of Business and Economics 2012 alum
- Strataca Systems, LLC, makers of a medical device by John Erbey, a 1993 College of Health Sciences alum
Hen Hatch and the Innovation Showcase will be from 4-9 p.m. at the Roselle Center for the Arts.
