Dover’s Firefly Music Festival low-key announces a September return

The fest, usually a June event, is aiming for early fall 2021.

The Firefly Music Festival had planned an epic event at The Woodlands in Dover for 2020, with dozens of performers scheduled over four days.

The fest — which was bought by Coachella parent company AEG Presents in July 2018 — was to be headlined by Billie Eilish, Halsey and Rage Against the Machine alongside attractions, a bazaar, panels, sports and overnight campouts.

Of course, the June event, like everything else last summer, was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a promise to return in 2021.

Firefly’s social media has been silent on the matter — until today, when its Twitter woke up and suddenly replied to a nearly two-week old post, hinting that the festival might return in September:

A look at the Firefly website confirms: Firefly 2021 is scheduled for Sept. 23 through 26, according to the landing page.

No other information has yet been released, but depending on the state’s COVID-19 guidelines, it may not be as large as usual. Currently, Delaware is in Phase 2, which has a maximum of 250 people for a large outdoor event by approval of the state. That number will likely increase by September, though. In 2019, Firefly drew 50,000 attendees; in 2015, when Paul McCartney headlined, it drew 90,000.
