FAILURE [feyl-yer] noun
- Lack of success. “The improper use of ‘jawn’ is a huge failure.”
- Nonperformance of something due, required, or expected. “We had high hopes for her ‘Uber for Arctic Splash’ but it was a failure.”
Failure is not something to be ashamed of, but inevitable and often an important part of becoming a successful entrepreneur. Without it, how would we learn? Ironically enough, Technical.ly has an event that will be filled with successful speakers talking about failure.
Join us on Thursday, May 4, at WeWork Northern Liberties for our annual #Failfest event during Philly Tech Week 2017 Presented by Comcast. In this off-the-cuff, unfiltered and unapologetic event, we’ll hear from a variety of speakers about their past failures and what they’ve learned along the way. Sometimes it takes a lot of failed attempts before you get to that one-in-a-million idea that will launch you to success.
Tickets are $30.
Come together, grab a snack, LOL, make some memories, commiserate and learn from fellow entrepreneurs and business leaders about how their epic fails made them who they are today.
Last year’s event featured one of our favorite talks to date, a stirringly honest look at a round of layoffs at one of the region’s best-known startups RJMetrics. CEO Robert Moore talked about what he called “the most challenging day of [his] professional life.” “But it was a way worse day for 25 people,” he said. “People I had made a lot of promises to.” About six months later, the company got acquired by Magento. Moore runs Magento Analytics out of Philly now. His cofounder, Jake Stein, runs a spinoff called Stitch and you can catch him at this year’s #Failfest.
Here’s our speaker list to date:
- Gail Ball, Managing Partner, Chestnut Street Ventures
- Revital Hirsch, Investor-in-Residence, Saul Ewing
- Roopak Majmudar, Chief Advisor for the Head of Engineering, Venmo
- Jake Stein, CEO and cofounder, Stitch
- Morris Levy, CEO and cofounder, The Yard
The event will be emceed by our very own associate editor Juliana Reyes.
#Failfest is a part of the PTW17 Business Conference, which also includes Technical.ly Introduced: A curated B2B event where founders will have the opportunity to meet with large corporations in the region and Technical.ly Introduced: Curated Founder Connections where founders can meet face to face with seasoned founders.
