Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but are there more birds chirping and an opportunity to wear one less layer before we head out the door? Is that Spring coming? We sure hope so.
If you make it out this week, you’ll want to stop by either Ignite Philly 5 or Net Squared Net Tuesday, on, uh, Tuesday evening. Or heck, do both. Who’s to stop you, rebel? On Thursday, hit up the PHP Area Meetup Group, where they’re gonna tell you that Notepad is just, like, sooo not cool anymore; by itself, anyway. Whatever you decide, just remember: the weeks of this cold abyss are quickly coming to an end.
All events listed on the event calendar are free to attend. Be sure to checkour complete calendar for more.
Tuesday, March 2nd: Ignite Philly 5 kicks off in the early evening in Fishtown, where we simply wish there were more tech events. Fortunately for the neighborhood, Ignite happens to be a premiere event for the local community, featuring a handful of movers and shakers in the creative economies. This month, Ignite is part of the inaugural Global Ignite Week, with over 60 participating cities hosting Ignite events this week. Speakers include Asheesh Laroia of OpenHatch.org, Andrea Silva of Fishtown’s Positive Space, Jennifer Cohen of Something Creative LLC, Garrett Melby of GoodCompany Ventures and Andrew J. Rosenthal of Happier.com. A ton of local startups are also represented, which we covered here. 7:00 p.m. Fishtown.RSVP. [view more events]
Tuesday,March 2nd: If Ignite ain’t your thing, NetSquared Net Tuesday will cover how social media tools are empowering our ability to respond to crises like the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Katrina, or even budget cut concerns. Included in the discussion: how social structures are emerging to build community to prepare for next crises. 6:00 p.m. Center City West.DETAILS. [view more events]
Thursday,March 4: The Philadelphia Area PHP Meetup group will meet to discuss the benefits of old school-style text editor workflow and how Integrated Development Environments are changing the game. In the words of the meetup group, “If you’re not using an IDE, you might as well be programming with mittens on.” Truth is, we wrote this week’s Highlights with mittens on. It was hard. 6:30 p.m. University City.DETAILS. [view more events]
