Sure, there’s the Smithsonian.
But D.C.’s also being painted all sorts of colors in countless murals and outdoor art pieces.
H Street resident Michael Antonucci decided that everyone should know about them. So he started mapping them. He’s charted and color-coded 219 art pieces on the Google Maps API.
“I’m fascinated by the idea that cities have a secret language,” he told Curbed DC. “D.C. graffiti isn’t part of a nefarious supernatural plot, but it does have a visual vocabulary that quickly becomes easier to read.”
Antonucci first posted the map on the blog BadWolf DC. For submissions, email Antonucci or follow him on Instagram.
