5 facts about Maryland’s tech workforce

CompTIA released new data on Maryland’s tech workforce this week.
The Cyberstates 2017 report looks at data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
Here are a few key stats:

• Maryland added 1,335 tech jobs in 2016, a gain of .7 percent.
• Tech accounts for 7 percent of Maryland’s overall workforce.
• When it comes to how much people are making, Maryland was the state that was closest to the 2016 national average of $108,900. The average in Maryland is $107,193. That ranks eighth nationally.
• The workforce is almost evenly split between jobs at a tech company, and tech jobs at a company in any type of industry sector.
• IT Services and Custom Software are the top tech sector in the state, employing nearly 71,000 people.
