“What’s next for Baltimore? Think start-ups.”
That’s the headline on a new report from CNBC, which looks at TEDCO’s focus on seeding lots of early-stage companies with smaller investments.
TEDCO President Rob Rosenbaum says in terms of volume of deals, “TEDCO is head and shoulders above almost everybody.”
Waving the flag for Charm City startups is Citelighter and CEO Saad Alam. The edtech company, which recently graduated from Betamore and moved to new Federal Hill offices, has revenues in the multimillion-dollar range, Alam told the San Francisco-based reporter who filed the story.
Alam recounted how the company’s founders moved from New York and were introduced to key influencers in Baltimore:

Through [former] T. Rowe Price executive John Cammack, Alam was introduced to executives with experience in education, including Jeff Cohen, a former CEO of Sylvan Learning, Doug Becker, chairman and CEO of Laureate Education, and venture capitalists with experience growing edtech start-ups, including the founder of venture firm New Enterprise Associates, Frank Bonsal Jr.
