Cloudamize, a venture-backed Center City company, aims to helps businesses get the most bang for their buck in terms of cloud infrastructure.
The startup’s latest product, Cloud Estimator, helps businesses decide if they should move to the cloud from a data center, a co-location facility or an on-premise environment. It shows them what their infrastructure will look like and how much it will cost.
Moving to the cloud is something that “every CIO is thinking about, irrespective of their industry,” CEO Khushboo Shah said. (Even the City of Philadelphia is working on moving its portfolio to the cloud.)
Cloudamize is a product company, as opposed to a company like the Navy Yard’s Cloudnexa, which offers cloud services that include a product. Like CloudNexa, they focus only on AWS right now because AWS owns more than 65 percent of the cloud market share, she said.
Cloud Estimator starts at $30 per server per month and gets cheaper for longer term assessments, while Cloud Maximizer, Cloudamize’s flagship product, is $8 per instance per month and gets cheaper as customers use it more. Cloudamize currently has 40 customers using its Cloud Maximizer software, and they include adtech, digital, web-hosting and high-growth SaaS businesses.
Cloudamize also recently added Joe Corvaia as its Chief Revenue Officer to its team of 20. Corvaia was previously the vice president of cloud computing at Evolve IP. Cloudamize graduated from DreamIt Ventures‘ fall 2012 class.
The company has rebranded since it graduated from DreamIt Ventures. Shah used to describe the company as a “Mint.com for Amazon Web Services” but said it has expanded its services to do both cost management and performance optimization. In other words, Cloudamize aims to “find the best performance at the lowest cost and find the AWS infrastructure that will give you that. On top of that, we allow businesses to run what-if analysis and see what happens if they were to double their load? What type of infrastructure will they need to support that will give them biggest bang out of their buck?” Shah wrote in an email.
Shah, 37, has her Ph.D. in electrical engineering and moved from Silicon Valley to Philadelphia five years ago because of family reasons. She lives in Center City.
