The Cambridge Innovation Center is something like an over-sized tech business incubator.
In Boston, it houses more than 500 companies, many of them startups, and provides employees at those companies with office space, typical office amenities like copiers, conference rooms and fast Internet, call-forwarding services and access to a network of mentors, venture capitalists and fellow startup owners.
Oh, and the perks: fully-stocked kitchens, a bike-share program, yoga classes, shower rooms. Soon Baltimore will be the home of another Cambridge Innovation Center location.
No exact word on a launch date, but according to a job posting on StartUpHire.com, the CIC “has identified a location in Baltimore to build an innovation center based on the CIC Cambridge model.” It’s now in the process of hiring a general manager for the Baltimore space, a person who will be responsible for assembling a team of five to eight people to administer and oversee the space.
