Time to give credit where credit is due. Shout out your mentor or someone who’s helped you recently in our new column, h/t. Write to us if you have a submission.
We’ve been kicking around the idea of launching a column where technologists and entrepreneurs honor their mentors or shout someone out who’s helped them recently, and when we saw Carvertise CEO Mac Nagaswami doing a “Mentor Series” on Facebook where he did exactly that, we decided it was time to do our own version. Here’s one of Nagaswami’s, which he gave us permission to repost.
“I had the great pleasure of meeting Bill Swain, the director of university relations for Wilmington University, two years ago when a younger Mac and Greg Star stumbled into his office. Never had we met a marketer more sophisticated in their approach to getting their message seen by the right audience, in the right place, at the right time. From crafting copy to design and layout to knowing what media channels are best at accomplishing what … I felt like I was being taken back to school from hearing him talk and in many senses I was! Everything from the importance of repurposing content (‘repurpose, repurpose, repurpose!!’ as he likes to say.) to handling PR to clearly communicating your value proposition — I have truly learned so much from Bill.”
“Although it took me about a year to finally come to grips with Bill’s correct observation that our website’s landing page should actually be geared towards advertisers instead of drivers, I am slowly learning to become more agile and responsive to critical feedback!! Thanks a million Bill. I look forward to growing my marketing knowledge from you over the coming years.”
