South Korean video game company Nexon is acquiring Timonium-based Big Huge Games, according to a press release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition follows a strategic partnership between the two companies on Big Huge-developed DomiNations. The mobile strategy game has racked up 19 million downloads since being launched last year, according to Nexon. The deal will allow the two companies to continue servicing DomiNations, which just launched a big update in December. Big Huge brings development expertise, while Nexon adds marketing.
“DomiNations has achieved great success in both the West and Asia, and we’re excited to work with Big Huge Games to deliver the best quality gameplay to fans for years to come,” Nexon CEO Owen Mahoney said in a statement.

It’s the latest move for the Big Huge title.
Initially founded in 2000 by Brian Reynolds, Tim Train and current Sparkypants leaders Jason Coleman and Dave Inscore, the studio created Rise of Nations. It was then acquired twice in a two-year period, eventually ending up working on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning at pitcher Curt Schilling’s doomed 38 Studios. From 2009-2012 it was owned by 38 Studios until that company went bankrupt in 2012. After assets were auctioned off, Train and Reynolds brought Big Huge back in 2013.
In the statement, Train said Big Huge is now looking toward “many years of working together to create worldwide hits that change the mobile landscape.”
