May the 4th be with you.
A Baltimore makerspace is celebrating Star Wars Day with a send-off for Han Solo in carbonite.
The Baltimore Node in Station North gives birth to lots of creations. Todd Blatt made a life-size replica of Captain Solo in his frozen — yet alive and in perfect hibernation — glory. He’ll explain how he did it, right down to the side panels that light up.
Blatt told us about the first replica before it was shipped off. He also makes other replica props. Along with a little bit of history about the film, it ended up being a tour of 3D printing, programming microcontrollers and plenty of other skills.
Since then, Blatt has been working on replicating props from the new Star Wars movies like The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
The party starts tonight at 7 p.m. Here’s the event page with more details.
