Baltimore Innovation Week 2013 kickoff party at Penn Station Plaza [Events]

Join us for the start of the second Baltimore Innovation Week at Penn Station Plaza at 5 p.m., along with Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc., the Gathering of food trucks, music, "geek games" and more.

This Friday kicks off the second annual Baltimore Innovation Week, organized by Technical.ly Baltimore and many of this city’s different tech-focused groups. Join us for a kickoff party at Penn Station Plaza at 5 p.m., organized with help from one of the week’s sponsors, Station North Arts and Entertainment Inc. The Gathering of food trucks will be there, along with music and “geek games” like foursquare.
After this Friday, more than 50 events are happening throughout next week, and we’ll use this space next Monday to highlight some of the bigger ones.

Civic Hacking Meetup: Join gb.tc and the monthly civic hacking as they put together a Baltimore version of New Orleans’ “Stop Beef” app, which allows people to anonymously submit tips online about “beefs” in their neighborhoods in order to pair up people with violence mediators. Baltimore Clojure Meetup: This is the inaugural Charm City Clojure Meetup. Come for the connections, but stay for the obscure programming language. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m. Emerging Technology Center Eastern Campus, 1101 E. 33rd St., Better Waverly, Baltimore city. RSVP. FREE.
Data Science MD Meetup: How are data science courses being taught as massive open online courses through such platforms as Coursera and Udacity? TEDxBaltimore City 2.0: Local speakers will give brief, TEDx-style talks about their roles in shaping events, organizations and policy in Baltimore city during this all-day event. Speakers include Open Society Institute Fellow Lawrence Brown and Assistant Commissioner for Code Enforcement Eric Booker. WordCamp Baltimore: WordCamp returns for its second year in Baltimore. The day features a number of workshops on using WordPress for design and business, and how amateurs to the content management system can create better, more responsive websites in WordPress. Women/InTech: Baltimore’s inaugural Women/InTech conference happens this Sunday. The day will feature prominent women from this city’s and the region’s tech scene, and focus on not only what women in technology companies are currently doing, but also on how to increase the number of women in the local tech scene.
