Millennial Summit pop-up art series launches Dec. 27

Next Wednesday, as the world starts morphing from the holiday season to plain old winter, a new idea to showcase local artistic talent will come to life. Called #ArtShots, these 90-minute pop-up events will feature “mystery artists” of various mediums, including music and visual art, and aim to generate buzz about the area’s rising talent.
It’s an initiative that came to be at the Delaware Millennial Summit in August, where one of the main takeaways was that Delaware needs to lose its outdated, buttoned-down reputation and appeal more to millennials seeking a vibrant and exciting city.
With places like The Queen, Oddity Bar (which showcases a variety of artists at its monthly Oddball Art Hall) and Spaceboy/Humble Park, Wilmington has more to appeal to young adults than it used to, but it’s not exactly on the millennial map as a 🆒 place to live. #ArtShots may not singlehandedly change that, but the movement to highlight the city’s quietly-thriving creativity eventually might.

The artists showcased in the first #ArtShots on the evening of Dec. 27 won’t be announced until Dec. 24; neither will the location of the event, in true pop-up fashion. To get access to the info as soon as it’s released, you have to register to attend (tickets are $20 — the proceeds will fund future events). The event will be in Wilmington, so you don’t have to worry that you’re buying a ticket to an event that might be out of town.
