Recent acquisitions make it clear that Under Armour officials want to collect data about the people who buy their products. Apparently, they also want to collect data about the company’s Baltimore headquarters.
The apparel giant recently inked a contract with D.C.-based energy startup Aquicore to gather real-time energy data for the buildings that make up the company’s Tide Point campus

Aquicore has grown on the strength of a versatile technology that can be useful to real estate companies, cities seeking transparency cred, or any big organization with a portfolio of buildings to manage.
“We can use that real-time data to optimize building operations, lower utility expenses and streamline things like tenant invoicing,” [Aquicore CEO Logan] Soya said.
“This is about the internet of things,” he added. “It’s about to be able to collect real-time information.”
Under Armour brass are joining a host of sports executives starting to think more about the carbon footprint of athletic competition. In late 2014, Constellation agreed to provide an energy analysis for the NHL. In return, the Baltimore-based company became the hockey league’s “Official Energy Provider.” No word yet on a fancy title for Aquicore.
