Apple’s plans to open a retail store in the Carnegie Library took a step forward this week.
According to the Washington Business Journal, Events. D.C. — the authority which runs the library — formally approved the lease for the store on Thursday. Here are some of the details, per WBJ:
Apple will lease approximately 19,000 square feet at the building, which opened in 1903, as well as the right to program a portion of the grounds around the library. A three-party agreement between Apple, Events D.C. and Historical Society of Washington will ensure that the society continues to operate its museum in the building, in 13,000 square feet on the lower, second and third levels.
While the lease was a step, the approval process for the store is not complete. However, Apple is aiming to begin construction this fall.
When the store arrives, it will have live trees in the atrium, and a 6K video screen.
