Since parking in D.C. is a nightmare, coworking spaces are beginning to take root in the suburbs.
The Agency, located at 950 N. Washington St. in Old Town Alexandria, launched last September. It exemplifies the diversity of the tech industry when you step away from Northwest D.C.
With 36 out of its 47 offices leased out, The Agency hosts tech startups like SimpleTix, but also a defense contractor, government contractors, fashion designers and photographers.
Office areas range from 95 to 1,170 square feet and rent starts at $600 per month, which includes WiFi, IT support, phone, printing and all the bells and whistles. Drop-in members pay $300 per month.
“It’s a very personable place, where people get to know each other, the staff gets to know the tenants, there is a real community feel between the users,” said spokesman Ari Zaleznick in an email. “We are also one of the only coworking spaces in the Old Town area, making the hassle of driving into the district regularly or at the odd hours a startup often requires more convenient.”
SimpleTix founder Aron Kansal, who lives in Old Town, also told Technical.ly DC in an email: “I’m paying just $200 more now than WeWork — but I have a private office.” It has a “sharp & modern looking image that you normally do not see in Old Town,” he added.
