DC Startup Week’s annual pitch competition concluded the conference on Sept. 18, which organizers said attracted more than 4,000 attendees virtually.
AfterrHome claimed the top prize, beating out four other finalists. The Maryland-based startup curates a platform that brings home buyers, realtors and home inspectors together for collaborative, remote livestream home inspections.
Unlike previous years, DCSW split its annual pitch event into two rounds. AfterrHome’s founder and CEO, Michael Floyd, Jr., made the pitch at both rounds of the DCSW’s competition.
“All five finalists were truly worthy of the top prize,” said DC Startup Week organizer Rachel Koretsky in a statement. “We are very excited to see AfterrHome win in their first-ever pitch competition.”
All 10 entrepreneurs who pitched this year received a one-hour CFO and tax advisory session with experts at WISS & Company, a free architecture assessment with Technology Rivers, a one-hour strategy consultation with NEXT and a one-hour business performance strategy session with Insperity. The top five startups that pitched — Afterrhome, SCOUT Inc., NurtureUp, Binni, Inc. and Yuduyu — got a free month of office space at WeWork. In addition to the other prizes, Afterrhome was awarded a $1,000 cash prize, a 45-minute session with Pique Coaching and an extra hour with Technology Rivers.
AfterrHome’s founder plans to put a portion of the winning funds toward its giveback program that supports environmental inspections for underserved communities.
“Winning the DC Startup Week Pitch Competition was an amazing feeling! It’s great to be validated by not only industry professionals, but also by the tech community,” Floyd told Technical.ly. “We are currently raising $250,000 to finish our advanced features as we prepare for launch and rapid growth. We are revolutionizing the home inspection industry and I thank DC Startup Week for the opportunity.”
