Growth alert: Delaware-founded contract manufacturing company Adesis has announced a new laboratory expansion in the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington. The move will support a growing research and development pipeline at the company, a subsidiary of former client Universal Display Corporation (UDC).
Adesis started in a predecessor form in a 2,500-square-foot space in Newport before becoming Adesis in 2005 and relocating to its Newark headquarters. After the 2016 acquisition by UDC, it moved into the Experimental Station in 2017 for additional laboratory space, and grew to more than 120 employees.
“That is working out great for us because the ‘R’ of the R&D [research and development] happens at the Innovation Space, and then we take our manufacturing and scale-up work, the ‘D’ of the R&D, over to New Castle, so it’s a great synergy,” Adesis President Andrew Cottone told Technical.ly last October, reflecting on the company’s growth over its three decades.
Adesis’ footprint will be tripled once the Experimental Station expansion is done.
“The new lab expansion in the Experimental Station increases our research footprint and broadens our capabilities for discovering, developing and designing critical chemistry solutions,” Cottone said in a press statement sharing the news. “For nearly a century, the DuPont site has contributed to Delaware’s reputation as a leader in chemical research and development, and we are proud that Adesis is part of that remarkable legacy.”
The growth has been supported by the Office of Gov. John Carney, the Experimental Station’s Delaware Innovation Space, and economic development agency Delaware Prosperity Partnership. Adesis is also a founding member of Intern Delaware, and Cottone has cited the “high concentration of talent” as an incentive for growing in the First State. Check out its current open roles.
