The University of Delaware’s Horn Program in Entrepreneurship recently named the six finalists in the Hen Hatch competition: three teams from the student track and three teams from the alumni, faculty and staff track.
This year, 68 teams submitted their business ideas and 21 were selected to advance to the semifinal round.
The six finalists will pitch their ideas at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Showcase on Tuesday, April 28 from 4-9 p.m.
The event will include time for networking, a panel discussion, an exhibition of projects and startups, Hen Hatch presentations and an awards ceremony.
Judges include Tanya Bakalov of SevOne, Wayne Kimmel of SeventySix Capital, Jeff Davison of Leading Edge Ventures, Kris Vaddi of Incyte Corporation and Dawn Willey of Bridgeforce.
Finalists from the student track:
Who: Electrical and computer engineering graduate student Elpiniki Apostolaki-Iosifidou
Pitch: An app that gives users real-time notifications of offers and deals nearby.
Who: Entrepreneurship and technology innovation student Benjamin Rapkin and mechanical engineering student Austin Crouse
Pitch: Using in-classroom projection systems in between classes to provide and engage students with messages they care about.
What: The Practice Set
Who: Keith Doggett and Jordan Gonzalez
Pitch: A website aimed at providing in-depth solutions and problems to students taking upper level STEM courses
Finalists from the alumni, faculty and staff track:
Who: Alumnus Shaun Savage
Pitch: An app that connects users with trucks or vans with people who need help moving or hauling goods.
What: Art Preservation Index
Who: Alumna Emily MacDonald-Koth
Pitch: A way to quantify fine art, which benefits interested and invested stakeholders.
What: SimUCare (previously known as Fidelity Masters)
Who: Nursing faculty members Amy Cowperthwait and Heiddy DiGregorio, and alumni Amy Bucha and Robert Tilly
Pitch: Low-cost healthcare products that focus on improving patient safety and advocate for shared decision making among patients, families and healthcare teams.
