15th Street-based incubator 1776 announced the hire of Margaret Shepard as managing director on Tuesday. Shepard joins the executive team from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where she was the executive director for communications and strategy.

As for what her role at 1776 will be, “Margaret is the quintessential liaison between 1776’s partner organizations and our startups,” 1776’s Donna Harris said in a statement.
Shepard’s hire is the latest in a string of high-level hiring and growth moves from the team at 1776. In March the incubator hired former CNN reporter Erin McPike as director of communications. Shortly after that, in April, the company landed a $7.2 million investment, and announced its first international expansion to Dubai.
