Yagglo bests 17 other startups to win Philly Startup Weekend

It was a long weekend, so the Startup Weekend participants were willing to wait a little longer.

After accepting the challenge of creating a startup in 50 hours over last weekend, 18 startups emerged to demo to a packed house at the University of the Arts Hamilton Hall. Yagglo, a new browser optimized for the iPad took first place and the fourth Switch Philly demo slot. Second place went to Credit Cario, a service that helps recommend credit cards and financial services to young people. Seed Invest, looking to be a Kickstarter for small businesses, took third place.

Special Places – A Mobile app that founder Jason Lotito described as “Angie’s List for special needs.”  Lotito, who has an Autistic son, says the app reviews businesses based on how they accodate children with Autisim, Diabetes, A.D.D. and those confined to a wheelchair.

Seedinvest – A platform to enable people to place micro-investments in startups and small businesses. Though, the business will admittedly have some trouble with current securities laws.

One2Many – An online marketplace where users donate goods for tax deductions and “bidders” donate their time to a nonprofit.

Lean Centipede – After finding it difficult to validate their original Startup Weekend idea, the Lean Centipede team created a service to help companies quickly validate business assumptions using online tools such as surveys.

Art Avenue – Fitting for the event’s University of the Arts location, Art Avenue is a mobile app that allows users to discover art nearby and browse additional information about it like audio tours, location and artist.

Credit Cardio – Founded by a former American Express marketer, Credit Cardio wants to “gamify personal finance” by asking users to answer quizzes to determine their financial literacy. The service can then curate credit card offers based on the quiz taker’s answers.

Carceirge – An app to manage car repairs process

Off Rack Offline – A site to help travelers with the details of their trip such as getting a passport, booking tickets, exchange rates and more.

RoShamGo – A “serendipitous game” where users can play people nearby in games of Rock Paper Scissors. Users can buy power ups and earn badges. Our favorite: “Stone Cold” won by throwing rock 10 times.

Rockablock – A service to manage invite-only parties.

Truxi – A truck renting marketplace that matches people with trucks and people who are moving.

QRag – Created by self-admitted “bored developers” QRag prints custom QR codes that, when scanned, mark the wearer as “dead.”

Tubelr – A video uploading site that enables people to watch videos together.

Zazzberry – An Elancer-like service to connect people with projects.

Yagglo – A new browser for the iPad focused on simplicity and gensture-based navigation.

Stagfund – A service to help best men everywhere plan and fund bachelor parties.

Itinerate – A graphical interface for planning travel.

FamilyTime – A private social network for families created by a father and son team.
