UMBC students sell campus navigation app to Hanover company

Students who took a freshman seminar in innovation and entrepreneurship sold the intellectual property rights to their campus-navigation app.

Several students who took a freshman seminar in innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, are now seeing dollar signs.
As the Baltimore Business Journal reports, the group of students sold a campus-navigation app they developed to Hanover-based company Tecore Networks.

The group of students, who were part of a fall 2012 freshman seminar class on entrepreneurship and innovation, have sold the intellectual property rights for their class creation — a campus navigation mobile application — to Hanover’s Tecore Networks. The goal of the class was for students to work together to develop an idea for a product or service, then work together to bring their idea to market.

The app gives users tours of the UMBC campus without the need for a tour guide and is expected to go to market by next fall.
