This Week in Jobs: Silence is violence

And, as always, jobs.

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

Good morning, friends.

We created TWIJ to add a bit of humor to the notoriously stressful job hunt. Over the last couple of years, we’ve kept it as light, fun and silly as possible. But lately, there’s not much to laugh about, and we need to acknowledge it.

After a feverishly emotional weekend of protests and riots, we believe it is a mistake to stay silent. As Technical.ly CEO and self-identified “privileged white leader” Chris Wink said, “silence is complicit in the injustice. White silence is violence.”

And so, we want to make it clear that we stand with Black Americans. We recognize our role in the work that needs to be done to dismantle the systemic oppression of Black people, and will continue to use our voices to fight for equality and justice for all.

Now, back to the jobs.

The News

First and foremost, take a look at this great series of short guest posts from local leaders on how they are addressing the issue of systemic racism with their organizations:

Knowledge-management platform Guru shared its tactical, yet empathetic reaction to the COVID-19 crisis, including the specific business decisions and unique implementations of its internal values that helped ease the adjustment for employees and customers.

Answer: shoulder pads, electric-hued spandex, human resources. Question: What are things that have been questionable since the ’80s? Getting to the bottom of an age-old debate about the best name for the HR department, Chris Wink brings together Protenus Chief People Officer Megan Emhoff and Linode Director of People Operations Vincent Palochko for the sixth episode of The TWIJ Show. And hey, while we have you, Linode’s job board is looking pretty juicy.
