Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

Heritage Map

The New York Times may have once made a pastime of periodically negging its Northeast Regional neighbor, dismissing the nation’s capital as a provincial food desert of expense-account steakhouses and lunchtime cheap eats. At long last, though, D.C. has finally earned the recognition it’s earned as one of America’s most exciting food destinations — and now, with help from Bon Appetit, you can pay tasty tribute to the Black-owned restaurants that made it all deliciously possible. The foodie website has assembled a list of locals’ favorite businesses that have long formed the sturdy foundation of the District’s food scene — and, with some new kitchen innovators, also fueled its recent creative renaissance.

The News

So you want to earn your angel wings, eh? Here’s a secret about networking: No one really loves networking, but it’s an indispensable skill for building your career, making those top-notch hires or landing your dream job. We’ve all been there, too — which is why we at Technical.ly have made it our mission to make networking not just as easy as possible, but, heck, maybe even fun. We gathered these networking tips from our smash NET/WORK Baltimore event, and from attire to eye-contact, we’ve got the rundown here.

And while we’re on the topic: Join us for NET/WORK DC on March 24 at The Yard. The event features more than a dozen hiring organizations and exhibitors, plus resume reviewers, an after-party with beer and snacks, an opportunity to get a fab new headshot, and, just to show we’re looking out for you, suits-and-ties are strictly optional.

You may not be ready to start serving draft kombucha and free bagels, but Baltimore’s Charm City Concierge is helping building landlords in the DMV stay competitive by enhancing their workplace experiences. Through the Simpli app, Charm City Concierge helps landlords offer their tenants access to wellness programs, events calendars, concierge services and much more. The company just signed four major clients in D.C., including CBRE and The Wharf; read more here.

The End

The food spots on Bon Appetit’s list are a panoply of global influences, and they range from mainstays like the Ethiopian offerings of Keren Restaurant, soul-food joint Oohhs & Aahh’s, and longtime go-to Ben’s Chili Bowl, to newcomers like the Trinidadian-influenced Cane and Afro-Carribean Kith & Kin. We doubt anyone can cover the spots in a single day, or even two, but at least there’s plenty of space to walk it off between stops.
