At long last, though, D.C. has finally earned the recognition it’s earned as one of America’s most exciting food destinations — and now, with help from Bon Appetit, you can pay tasty tribute to the Black-owned restaurants that made it all deliciously possible. The foodie website has assembled a list of locals’ favorite businesses that have long formed the sturdy foundation of the District’s food scene — and, with some new kitchen innovators, also fueled its recent creative renaissance.

The End

The food spots on Bon Appetit’s list are a panoply of global influences, and they range from mainstays like the Ethiopian offerings of Keren Restaurant, soul-food joint Oohhs & Aahh’s, and longtime go-to Ben’s Chili Bowl, to newcomers like the Trinidadian-influenced Cane and Afro-Carribean Kith & Kin. We doubt anyone can cover the spots in a single day, or even two, but at least there’s plenty of space to walk it off between stops.
