Open Data Delaware just got a little more legit: The group now has its own website.
Local dev Dominique Clarke, who is the community engagement manager at Zip Code Wilmington, built the website.
“She did an awesome job,” said Open Data organizer Ryan Harrington.
The site is decidedly un-techish and features photos that appeal to a community vibe, including ones of Delaware locales, an Open Data meetup and the occasion when Gov. Jack Markell signed an open data executive order in January.
“She took my rough idea and really turned it into a pleasant-looking layout,” said Open Data organizer David Ginzberg.
The site will include information about previous and future speakers at Open Data meetings, the group’s projects, ways to get involved and of course, datasets.
“We wanted to make sure we have an online presence we could point people to besides just the Meetup.com site,” Ginzberg said.
Right now, the site has information on the group’s Twitter and Slack account, its meetup group and a GitHub link to coding for the site.
“Anybody can make changes, hopefully we can get some other people to also join us on this project and help update it,” Clarke said, in true open-source fashion.
She built the site on a short timetable using basic HTML/CSS, she said, adding that as Open Data Delaware has a civic hacking focus, she viewed the website as her own civic hacking project.
“Now we have that foundation we can build upon and people can join in,” she said.
