DCFemTech, the coalition of women in leaders in the D.C. area revealed its list of 54 women who are being recognized for their accomplishments, on Tuesday.

The fourth edition of the DCFemTech Awards drew 620 nominations for outstanding women in code, design and data. That’s a 58-percent increase in applications over 2017.

The awards are designed to champion women in engineering and design. A call for nominations was issued in February, and a committee of 40 technologists, designers and executives chose the award recipients based on “impact on the organization they work for, the complexity of the issue they addressed with code or design or data, and their work with the community, or open source contributions.”

“It’s challenging to narrow down the long list of nominees to select just a few award recipients, but this year’s honorees really stood out for their contributions to groundbreaking projects and in creating change and lasting impact,” said Shannon Turner, the founder of Hear Me Code and member of the DCFemTech Leadership Team. “We couldn’t be more proud of this year’s honorees and can’t wait to celebrate their accomplishments at the ceremony in May.”

A reception will be held May 7 to celebrate the award winners at the Washington Post.
