The local chapter of Google Developers Group is offering tech talks and a chance to build self-driving robots at DevFestDC this week.

The daylong event will be at the Sheraton Tysons Hotel on June 8. The big event (more than 900 attended last year) is designed to delve into specific platforms, as well as get a look at technologies that are emerging. The event has 25 speakers diving into technical topics. Many are from Google, including opening keynote speaker and Chief Decision Engineer Cassie Kozyrkov.

Developers from local companies will also be featured, as the Washington Post’s Ksenia Coulter talks debugging and Capital One’s Isatu Conteh discusses experiences with Firebase. In the afternoon, a panel on hiring women in tech features General Assembly DC Regional Director Shanaz Chowdhery, Hatch Apps cofounder Amelia Friedman, 1776 Chief Strategy Officer Penny Lee, Mia Thomas of The Mentor Method, and Uplift founder Kari Clark.

According to GDG’s Chida Sadayappan, the day’s hands-on activities come through a partnership with Google Cloud OnBoard Training. A group of Google engineers used their 20% time to create a full-day workshop that guides participants through building a self-driving car. To up the excitement, there’s a race.
