With Coleman Technologies‘ latest product, manufacturers can count large volumes of tiny objects, like candy, pharmaceuticals and precious stones. Its first iteration of the machine, the Ball-Coleman Seed Counter, can count 2,000 seeds per second.
Why is it so important to know how many seeds are in one package?
It’s cost-efficient, said Coleman Technologies spokesman Adnan Zafar. Industries that sell large volumes of small items, like the pharmaceutical industry, the agricultural industry and the confectionary industry, usually sell by weight. Manufacturers will often package more than the given weight of a product in order to avoid error. But with an object counter, these companies can save money by providing an accurate amount of any given product.
Coleman Technologies, based in Newtown Square, has been around since 1995 and makes hardware and software that turns imaging into data. The company is a team of seven engineers, led by founder Michael Coleman. Coleman, who’s in his 50s, lives in Glen Mills, Pa.
