The weekends are a chance to dig into personal projects, without the pressures of a job. Code and Coffee offers a chance to get together with others to pursue those endeavors, or just socialize.
The Sunday meetup in DC debuted earlier this month, and is set to keep rolling with an every-other-week schedule. A similar Code and Coffee event is already well established in Alexandria.

According to one of the co-organizers, Steve Chen, the events are open to a mix of working and socializing.
“It allows people in the local community to meet other coders without having to frankly do anything. If they have a project in mind, do it! But no one’s gonna force you to,” Chen said.
The group’s next session, dubbed “0.2,” will be held at Arcadia Power on 14th street, just two blocks from the McPherson Square metro stop on Sunday, October 22, from 1-5 p.m. The sessions alternate between that location and U.S. News and World Report headquarters in Georgetown.
The description for the event states that the event organizers will provide coffee and pastries. Code and Coffee will start off with the participants introducing themselves and stating which project they are working on. Other than that, the event is open, and participants can work on personal projects, or use the event to socialize with other participants.
According to the original description, projects that attendees will be able to work on include (but are not limited to):
- Building an app
- Working through programming excercisers
- Blogging
This event is free, and open to coders of all skill levels.
