This Thursday is Juneteenth, a national holiday and a day off for many Americans. Juneteenth marks freedom — but it’s also a reminder.
On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their emancipation, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It was a delayed new beginning that still resonates.
Today, Juneteenth invites us to reflect on what freedom means now. For many, that includes the freedom to pursue meaningful work, to be fairly paid, to build wealth and to show up fully in the workplace.
