DeTv set to launch a new live morning show

Big news: If everything stays on schedule, Wilmington will have its very own morning show by Christmas.

The (not-too-early) morning talk show “Good Morning Wilmington” is expected to air live two to three times a week at 10 a.m. on Comcast Channel 28, and on the nonprofit DeTv’s online channel, which will also offer bit-sized clips for social media sharing.

“I started thinking about [“Good Morning Wilmington”] when I was running the station [WITN 22] for the City,” said DETV founder Ivan Thomas. “They basically were like, ‘no we don’t want to do that, we don’t have the time.’ OK. Then I was here putting all these [DeTv] shows together, and I was like, you know what, why don’t I do one big show? One big show highlighting what’s going on in Delaware.” He paused to correct himself: “In Wilmington. The idea is to transfer to all of Delaware, but I’m starting with what I know, which is Wilmington.”

“It will cover community, entertainment, lifestyle… The idea is to start it off like ‘[Live with] Kelly and Michael,’ shot like that, and it will give people – especially nonprofits – an opportunity to show what they’re doing.”

Thomas is using his Facebook following to help build the show in the planning stages, from asking for input on the show’s logo to taking to Facebook Live to discuss the topics the show should cover with the community.

While “Good Morning Wilmington” is gearing up to be the channel’s big new project, it’s just one in the slate of upcoming shows at DeTv. Last week, the the pilot for “Millennial Minute” went live. In the short program, hosts Charles-Dayquon and Lady Rose chat about the latest trends in music and fashion.

The channel has been covering the Wilmington Blue Coats, who will be moving into the new 76ers Fieldhouse in 2019, as well as programming featuring Breakout the Comedian, local politics, music and even cooking videos.

And, of course, Thomas is the co-host of the city’s “Wilmington Show” with Zach Phillips, which continues to cover the city frankly and honestly – and ultimately with positivity, even when the topics at hand are tough.

“Good Morning Wilmington” has a tentative launch date of December 20. Stay tuned.
