What does a ‘professional image’ and success look like in 2020? Check out this speaker series

A clothing store is probably where you go to seek out a professional look, but next week, it’s also where you could learn about professionalism and modern successes, thanks to The Wardrobe‘s Work It Speaker Series.

The Wardrobe, which was just renamed after 25 years as Career Wardrobe, is a nonprofit social enterprise selling clothing to the public and providing clothing to people of all gender identities and backgrounds who are seeking employment or moving to independence, such as those leaving incarceration or moving into recovery. The org has storefronts in Philadelphia, Delaware, Berks, Bucks, Chester and Montgomery counties.

And the first week of December, The Wardrobe is hosting a daily speaker series focusing on crafting a professional image and succeeding in new workplace environments. The events will be free and virtual, and the org will be posting recordings to its YouTube page, which has been publishing videos about unemployment, virtual interview and work-from-home tips.

Folks can sign up for individual sessions during the Work It series, or the entire week, but must register for the Zoom info. The sessions are as follows:

• Professional Styling & The CROWN Act — On Nov. 30 at 4 p.m., Reagan Campbell, a business corporate stylist and owner of C Suite Styling, and webinar host of “Pushing Forward: Natural Hair and The Crown Act” will host a conversation about professional hair styles and looks that empower and embrace Black women in business.
• WAVE Self Defense and Boundary Setting — On Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. WAVE, a self-defense and empowerment course, will host a webinar about practical and empowering self-defense strategies that can be used in a wide range of situations. The conversation will focus on how to engage in a conversation about boundary setting at work and during interviews to keep yourself safe and respected.
• Are You Zoom Ready? — On Dec. 2 at noon, join Just Us Girls makeup studio and The Wardrobe staff to talk about how to present yourself professionally on Zoom and in-person. Enjoy an interactive virtual makeup and skincare tutorial by Just Us Girls (BYO makeup).
• Gender and the Workplace — On Dec. 3 at noon, attendees will talk about the #MeToo movement, increasing awareness of LGBTQ+ and trans workers, as well as navigating gender dynamics and discrimination in the workplace.
• Redefining Success in a Pandemic — On Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., Michelle Ross, CEO of Vision Media, and Nicole McMackin, CEO and President of Irvine Technology Corporation, will talk about upskilling and how to think about success during a pandemic.
