A prominent local developer is offering a unique, and paid, opportunity to teens this summer.

Rising 2021-2022 juniors and seniors at Delaware high schools have an opportunity to apply for a three-week internship with the Buccini/Pollin Group (BPG).

BPG U, created with assistance from Goodwill of DelawareDelaware Pathways and Reach Riverside, will introduce students to all aspects of real estate development. That includes acquisitions, leasing, marketing, and development and operations. The program will focus on professional development, with a goal to expose students to a variety of potential careers.

“As leaders in our community, we want to use our platform and resources as a positive force for change in Wilmington,” said De’Joun Lee, BPG U program coordinator, in a statement. “While developing the program, we searched for other local companies with similar internship opportunities, but could not find anything comparable to what we plan to achieve. In the future, we hope BPG U will serve as a model for neighboring companies to adopt in an effort to express their commitment to the youth of our community.”

Applications are currently being accepted through May 9. Following an interview process, eight applicants will be selected to participate in the program, which will take place in person at BPG’s headquarters in downtown Wilmington from June 21 through July 13. DART transportation passes will be provided upon request.

During the three weeks, interns will collaborate to complete a mock development project with the help of each department at BPG. The final development plan will then be presented to BPG leadership.

Students, will earn $10 and hour during the internship, and will leave with a portfolio of work and corporate environment soft skills experience.
