As Pittsburgh tech prepares for the end of this year and looks ahead to 2022, the focus is on community collaborations and networking. After some key successes this year, from public offerings to optimistic reports to new community organizations, the tech industry is convening at these November events to figure out how to keep pushing that momentum forward.
For great food, drink and company, check out some of the fun in-person events coming up this month — along with some key webinars to attend, for professional development, too.
Pittsburgh Technology Council Fall Virtual Hire UP
This college recruiting event from the Tech Council will bring together local tech companies to find new talent from area universities for jobs and internships. The career fair will take place completely online with chat rooms and the option for video interviews for each company participating. Student registration for the event is free, and junior or senior-level undergraduates interested in tech careers are preferred. Some of the companies participating include FedEx Ground, PGT Trucking and Duquesne Light Company.

TransportationCampPGH
Described as an “unconference, or “people-powered event,” TransportationCampPGH is a summit for corporate employees, public officials, technologists and more involved with “the intersection of urban transportation and technology.” The half-day event involves breakout sessions for discussions on how to use tech to improve mobility and make transportation methods more accessible for everyone, as well as expert panels and a socially distanced happy hour at Grist House Craft Brewery in Millvale (though the event itself is online).

Global Entrepreneurship Week
From the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University comes this series of events to bring together all members of the local entrepreneurship ecosystem to advance founder ideas and missions. All events are open to the public except for the Angel Table, which is an investment competition where graduate students from both universities have the chance to act as angel investors for real startups. Other events include chances to meet funders and startups, as well as a couple of competitions at the end of the week. All events will be held online.

Fall Life Sciences Networking Event
LifeX Labs and Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse are hosting this chance to get to know others in the local life sciences community. The in-person, outdoor gathering will have “local Pittsburgh cuisine and warm autumn libations” according to the event page. Space heaters will also keep attendees warm so everyone can comfortably stick around to make new connections before the end of the year.

Corporate Startup Lab Corporate Entrepreneurship Forum
This event is an initiative of CMU’s Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship. Now in its third year, the forum’s 2021 edition will focus on large corporations’ roles in making innovation more widespread and catalyzing change for everyone. The two afternoon sessions will take place online as a webinar and will include speakers from the corporate sphere, academia, research, startups and more. Those who register early can receive a Corporate Startup Lab gift box in the mail.

FocusPGH FLOURISH
This quarterly event aims to bring together people from Pittsburgh’s technical and creative economies for food and drinks. Centered around mingling and networking, this event is a great chance to meet people from different sectors of tech or from the more artistic side of Pittsburgh, and find chances for new collaboration. A selection of workers from both tech and creative careers will share insights in a series of 10-minute lightning talks, the event page said.
