Have you considered writing a guest post for Technical.ly?
As someone involved in innovation, tech, science or startups, you have expertise and lived experience — of your ecosystem, your region, your sector — that might be helpful to share with others. What have you learned? Which trends ring true? Why is your event interesting? Who are the people paving the way for others? How can the community improve, and what are some actionable steps to get there?
If you want to share a perspective, follow the steps below.
1) Craft your pitch
Visit our Guest Post Evaluator and answer some questions about yourself and the story you want to write. (Sign into your Google account before using for best results.) The Evaluator, a Gemini Gem built by our Reynolds Journalism Institute innovation fellow, will measure your expertise and pitch uniqueness. You must score at least three points in both categories in order to move on to the next step.
Please note: We do not accept promotional content, product pitches or marketing copy as guest posts. If your goal is brand promotion, product launches or lead generation, please explore technical.ly/advertising for sponsored content and partner options.
2) Write your draft
Now it’s time to write! Your piece should:
- Be between 600-900 words
- Share something you have expertise about, either through lived experience or training
- Offer something new that can advance the conversation
- Include specifics: Back up statements with quotes, links to other reporting or statistics and data from reliable sources
- Disclose any affiliations with your company or business
- Not yet have been published by any other media outlet (LinkedIn is OK)
We accept drafts via Google Docs only.
3) Submit your materials
To be considered for publication, submit through the Google Form below. It asks for a link to your Google Doc draft (make sure it’s publicly accessible or shared with [email protected]), as well as a 1-3 sentence bio for your author page.
You must be open to working with an editor on changes or updates, as we have final say over all material published on our site.
4) Review edits and finalize for publication
We’ll confirm receipt of your submission within a week. (If you don’t hear back, please message [email protected].) For accepted submissions, here’s how the process works:
- One of our editors will review the piece and suggest changes or leave comments with questions, then email you when it’s ready to review.
- We’ll ask for your headshot, and a photo to run at the top of the story. The featured photo must be at least 1200px wide (larger is better) and horizontal (3×2 ratio is ideal).
- You’ll review the suggestions and make any needed updates or additions, then write back to let us know the piece has been revised, attaching the headshot and featured photo to your email
- The editor will do a final review, then prep the piece for publication, and let you know the scheduled pub date!
