Power Moves: Comcast promotes Dalila Wilson-Scott to chief diversity officer

This week, Comcast announced that its Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation leader, Dalila Wilson-Scott, had been promoted to executive VP and chief diversity officer of the corporation. The role was previously held by David Cohen, who is transitioning to a senior advisor role this year.

Wilson-Scott will oversee diversity, equity and inclusion work within the corporation and will also continue to lead the NBCUniversal Foundation. She will report to CEO Brian Roberts, and began her role Wednesday.

Since joining the organization in 2016, Wilson-Scott has lead the company’s impact work, charitable and philanthropic strategies and has been involved with the company’s digital equity efforts.

“Dalila is a fantastic leader and passionate advocate and supporter of our corporate social responsibility efforts, which have been at the heart of our company for decades,” Roberts said in a statement. “In her new role, she will build on our strong foundation, partnering with leadership teams across our organization to continue to make our company and culture more inclusive, and to help us drive substantive change.”

Comcast is the latest to appoint a chief diversity officer, following a string of D&I-focused hires across the region this summer.

Health IT company Proscia has named pathologist Monica Santamaria-Fries, to its executive team as digital transformation officer. In the new role, Santamaria-Fries will use her experience to guide diagnostic labs in the transition to digital pathology.

The company moved its HQ from Baltimore to Philadelphia two years ago, citing a good market for deep learning talent. Santamaria-Fries joins the startup after a 30-year career with healthcare company The Permanente Medical Group in Northern California.

Her new role with Proscia will involve all stages of the digital journey for the company, from strategy and requirements definition through implementation. She’ll also work closely with its commercial, regulatory, scientific and tech teams to shape the company’s product roadmap and communicate clinical evidence.

“Digital pathology adoption has never been more critical than it is today. I look forward to playing a key role in pushing the industry forward to increasingly drive impactful clinical and operational benefits for leading laboratories around the world,” Santamaria-Fries said in a statement.

In addition to quietly raising $380 million this month, on-demand delivery company goPuff also added a slate of new leadership to its executive team from companies like Lowe’s and Uber, it announced this week.

Jocelyn Wong, former CMO at Lowe’s, has joined as goPuff’s first chief customer officer. Jonathan DiOrio, Uber’s former global head of fintech and U.S. business development, joined in the newly created role of chief business officer. And former TripAdvisor engineering executive Rekha Singh joined as the company’s VP of engineering.

All three will be working from goPuff HQ in Philadelphia.

As of Jan. 1, Dave Burkavage will become the office managing partner at Ernst & Young’s Philadelphia practice, replacing Chris Bruner. He’ll be responsible for client service, business performance and firm operations in Philadelphia.

Burkavage most recently led the Philadelphia EY Private practice, serving local startups and established private enterprises, and has worked with pros in manufacturing, technology, technology services, private equity, venture capital, and health and life sciences companies. Burkavage is a member of the boards of directors at PACT and the Philadelphia Youth Network, and will soon step into a role as board member at the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia.
