Resource Roundup: Campus Philly is hosting a virtual tech career fair for Black and brown students

Plus, details on a lab-based workforce development program, free digital engagement training program for creative pros and more.

Campus Philly is bringing professional opportunities to Black and brown college students.

Campus Philly, the nonprofit that connects college students to their city, is looking to boost diversity in local tech with its Black & Brown Students in Tech Virtual Recruiting Event. The event will be hosted virtually on the Brazen platform for students with an interest in jobs in the Greater Philadelphia region, as well as remote opportunities elsewhere.

Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia’s CEO Council for Growth, JPMorganChase, Coded By Kids and Comcast are all sponsoring the event. Exhibitors include local tech employers Piano, Bluecadet, Gopuff and IntegriChain.

It’s happening Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m.

And though the deadline to apply has passed, note Campus Philly’s new Tech Scholars program offering $1,000 grants to Black and brown college students in unpaid tech internships.

Registration is open for BULB’s next cohort.

Applications for the University City Science Center’s fall 2021 Building an Understanding of Lab Basics (BULB) workforce development program are being accepted through Nov. 2. From Nov. 8 to Dec. 4, the program will run virtually as participants build basic laboratory skills that can be applied to multiple roles in the STEM industry.

Program graduates will receive resources such as a laptop, a STEM mentor and access to online learning modules beyond program completion.

The Arts + Business Council wants to give creative pros a Digital Drawingboard.

ABC’s free Digital Drawingboard program consists of four weeks of virtual programming alongside a cohort of creative professionals and leaders in the arts and technology. Members of each cohort will learn how to engage audiences online by using web design and social media to share company stories and raise money. Sessions will run from 9 am. through 12 p.m. each week, kicking off Oct. 27.

Jefferson Health Hack gives technologists a chance to create healthcare solutions.

Jefferson Health is hosting this hackathon for technologists to create healthcare solutions alongside people from different backgrounds who they may not usually get to collaborate with. First place winners will win $5,000, $3,000 will go to the second place winners, and the third place winners will win $1,000.

In true weekend-long hackathon fashion, it’s happening Friday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Oct. 2, at Jefferson.

The City of Philadelphia wants to know what you think about taxes.

The goal of the new Tax Reform Working Group is to recommend changes to the city tax code, with a focus on boosting employment and bringing businesses here. Want to participate? A survey is forthcoming, but in the meantime, you can attend an information meeting about the group on Wednesday, Oct. 20 or Saturday, Oct. 23.
