Center City medtech company Health Union has acquired Boston-headquartered WEGO Health, and will be bringing all of its 30 employees on board remotely.

After launching with Migraine.com in 2010, Health Union now manages 33 online health information hubs where users who share chronic health conditions can interact with each other. Meanwhile, WEGO oversees a network of 100,000 “patient leaders” across health conditions.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Health Union’s efforts to serve the healthcare industry’s “patient-centered marketing needs.”

“For more than 10 years, both Health Union and WEGO Health have been committed to advocating for patients, in complementary ways,” Health Union cofounder and CEO Olivier Chateau said in a statement. “To me, WEGO Health joining the Health Union family represents the natural next step in the evolution of our companies, built on our shared commitment to patients and the future of social health.”

As a result of the acquisition, WEGO CEO and founder Jack Barrette will become a part of Health Union’s executive leadership team.

The company previously had less than 200 full-time and part-time employees, and will now add 30 more. Employees in the local market won’t see any immediate changes, a spokesperson told Technical.ly, and WEGO Health employees who are located elsewhere will continue to work remotely.

The companies declined to share financial details of the deal. Check out Health Union’s current open roles.
