Since 2016, local coworking space network 1776 has partnered with the University of Pennsylvania to run the Pennovation Center, an incubator that provides space and business-building programming for startup founders and professionals.

Now, 1776 is searching for a director to manage day-to-day operations for the hub within the Pennovation Works building on Grays Ferry Avenue.

See the role

1776 Chief of Staff Charlotte Lee expects the next person in the Pennovation Center director position to be a catalyst for innovation in the Philadelphia region and elsewhere.

“The role touches all facets of management and operations, including member engagement and strategic planning for the continued evolution of the 40,000+ square foot Pennovation Center facility,” she told Technical.ly via email. “Opportunities abound to support the growth and development of incredible companies emerging in fields such as life sciences, biotech and engineering.”

While the role will be based in Southwest Philadelphia, Lee added that candidates should have a deep knowledge of entrepreneurship and current innovation trends within the city and elsewhere.

“They should have a robust network and a proclivity to making meaningful connections between entrepreneurs, funders and enterprise partners,” she said. “The role manages three other roles on site, so team leadership and culture building are a must.”

The Pennovation Center has been busy even during the pandemic. In addition to its daily activities, it held a virtual accelerator for startups in 2020. This year, another virtual accelerator is kicking off soon.
