Cool Job Alert: STRATIS IoT is hiring a bunch of engineers, and developers. Here’s how those titles differ

STRATIS IoT reached a milestone in fall 2020 when it was acquired by Texas-based real estate software company RealPage.

At the time, CEO Felicite Moorman said the East Falls-based software company had aggressive hiring plans. And now, as it continues to grows, STRATIS is looking for a slew of new software engineers and developers to join its ranks. From Technical.ly’s jobs board:

• Senior Developer (React)

• Resolution Engineer (Python/Django)
• Software Developer (Python)
• Senior Mobile Developer (Kotlin)

So, for the uninitiated: What’s the difference between those pretty-similar-sounding roles? Here’s how STRATIS recruiting lead John Laury and RealPage VP of Product Management Charlie Hill say STRATIS defines them.

Laury said engineers most frequently work in IT operations, such as VMware, EMC and Windows Server engineer roles, whereas developers are most often under the CTO umbrella, where they develop products, code in various languages, and work in pods following agile methodologies.

“As far as seniority level, we have developers ranging from I-IV; we normally do not include the numbers in Developers I-III and then for Developer IVs, we call them Senior,” he said. “Most of our developer roles are IIIs.” (Here’s one CTO’s take on what each of these levels mean in terms of years of experience and responsibilities.)

Hill said STRATIS job postings typically includes the term “engineer” when a role is not in feature development. Examples of that are a DevOps engineer, support engineer, or site reliability engineer. STRATIS developers contribute backend or frontend features on a daily basis, he said.

What makes STRATIS cool? It was voted Growth Company of the Year in the 2020 Technical.ly Awards, for one. Moorman and Director of Culture Shawn Doyle joined the virtual September event live to accept the award together, and championed its workplace culture.
