When over 200 Philadelphians came together at University City Science Center’s Quorum for the Philly Tech Week 2020 Launch Event last November, the energy was palpable as we presented plans for the milestone 10th annual celebration of tech and innovation.
Bragging rights were also flexed when we asked people to keep their hand raised for each year they’ve attended since 2011. Many were held high for multiple years — a sign, we believe, that our long-standing mission to connect more people with the region’s vibrant technology and innovation ecosystem continues to deliver.
Now, with this year’s tradition of weeklong events just two months away — running from Sept. 21 through 25 — we reached out to three longtime partners for a bite-sized reflection on why they’ve been with Philly Tech Week every year since 2011.
In particular, we asked, “Why have you taken this journey with us every year since 2011?” We think they summed it up perfectly.
Kristen Fitch, marketing director at University City Science Center
“The organizations, companies, and people that make up the tech community have evolved over the last decade and collectively, the ecosystem has matured. Philly Tech Week has been a reflection of that maturation, a benchmark of the growth that’s being recognized globally and a celebration of a community that gets bigger and better each year. The Science Center is proud to have been part of that evolution and we’re bullish on what the next 10 years will bring.”
Jeff Bodle, partner for corporate and business transactions and emerging business and technology practices at Morgan Lewis
“For ten years, we’ve watched the growth and continued success of Philly Tech Week. Its inception as an ambitious but nascent attempt to unite Philly’s tech and entrepreneur community has grown to enable others to discover this exciting and burgeoning ecosystem. Under the visionary leadership of Chris [Wink] and his team, it continues to execute on its original mission while simultaneously expanding its reach and programming. PTW fosters civic improvement, deep industry conversations, and youth empowerment, and connects large companies, emerging businesses, tech and creative talent to opportunities and to each other — in addition to being fun, informative, and thought-provoking. Morgan Lewis is pleased and proud to have been there from the start and can’t wait to see what PTW has in store for us over the next ten years; as it is no coincidence that the success of our tech and entrepreneur community has grown exponentially over the last decade.”
Tracey Welson-Rossman, chief marketing officer at Chariot Solutions and founder of TechGirlz
“Chariot Solutions has been part of Philly Tech Week since Year One. We are proud to sponsor Year Ten. Philly Tech Week is a galvanizing event for our region, bringing together all facets of the community that are needed to sustain and grow it.”
And a bonus note: They’ll be with us again this year.
So how is it that PTW has continued to grow each year? Why is it a staple on the calendars of growth hackers, thought leaders, technologists, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and agents of change?
Here’s a look at why Philly Tech Week reigns as both a David and Goliath for connecting people to the latest local advances in tech and innovation.
This year we are extending and expanding upon these experiences through the reimagined 10th annual Philly Tech Week: a fully virtual activation of ideas, people and platforms.
