Power Moves: Here are 3 new execs and directors in Philly tech

The Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC), the entrepreneurship campus that operates out of University City’s 3675 Market, has named Sally Guzik — a marketing strategist and consultant who previously led operations and events at the company’s Miami location — as its new local director.

Guzik, who hails from Pittsburgh, was part of the team that came to Philly six months ahead of the site opening. In April of last year, she became senior community engagement lead in Philly, helping connect governmental, business and nonprofit leaders with CIC and its plans for the city.

“We’ve created a model across CIC that nurtures collaboration and growth and attracts investors seeking groundbreaking opportunities,” Guzik said in an email. “As a native Pennsylvanian, I’m excited to continue to tailor this to Philadelphia to help our clients reach their potential, while also inspiring them to broaden their vision from the global to the local.”

First day on the job for Guzik was not spent roaming the halls of its University City campus, but at South by Southwest 2019, where Guzik joined Philly innovation figures on a panel titled “Unique Spaces, Unique Communities,” inside the Amplify Philly house.

Here’s how the director sees CIC connecting with the broader Philly community, by way of an interview published on CIC’s company blog:

“One thing that differentiates us from other shared space models is that we view our community as what we build inside our space and outside of it,” Guzik said. “When we move into a community, we commit to sharing our unique resources to help solve our new neighbors’ issues, working together. I am passionate about creating opportunities and experiences for our innovation community to act locally. We’ve developed partnerships with our neighbors by simply asking, ‘How can we help?'”

When Old City-based Interactive Mechanics shut down at the end of the year, founder Mike Tedeschi — a designer and alum of Callowhill’s Azavea — told us that, aside from missed revenue goals, the closure had a personal component to it.

“My background is in design and building projects,” said Tedeschi. “The last two years I haven’t really had a role in that. Now I wanna go back to building stuff, and not have to focus on things like payroll and HR.”

Now, Tedeschi has found his next move, one that will plug him more directly with project work as newly minted design director at Fishtown design and dev agency O3 World.

“I’m thrilled to be joining O3 World as their new Design Director,” Tedeschi said in an emailed statement. “After running an agency for several years, it was important to me to join a company that shares my values and approach to creating digital experiences. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to support, grow, and learn from the team, and further develop O3 World’s reputation for strategic thinking and innovative design.”

Here’s another update out of 3675 Market: A Singapore-based company called Foyr — makers of cloud-based software products for the real estate and design industry — announced it has expanded to the U.S. by way of a hub inside CIC. Tech exec Richard Tarity has been tapped as the company’s president for the North America region.

“Foyr is well-positioned in the rapidly changing Proptech digital market,” said Tarity in a press release. “Its people are passionate about building the business, and I look forward to helping champion the next phase of Foyr’s growth in the U.S.”

The U.S. expansion follows the company’s $4.2 million Series A raise in July of last year, co-led by Philly-based firm SRI Capital, as one of the first investments from its $100-million venture fund.
